Buyers Concerns

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

hey all, Reign here.

I have been holding off on purchasing a Switch thus far. Ive never been one to early adopt any new tech since most new tech often comes with a revision to fix hardware etc after a year or two in. At first, it was the lack of game library the switch offered. Nindies galore that i have infinite access to on my PC, WiiU ports that frankly should have died with the console, and 3rd party games that, in my opinion, should never have been put onto a switch... looking at you bethesda.... anyway. Now that the Switch library is expanding and with the foretold release of several new titles, my interest has been peaked. ( i somehow did not see the megaman 11 release trailer until now, 3 months after the fact) Even with the release of new titles that are original to the switch and not just ports, im finding it difficult to purchase a switch still.

Would i love to overclock it and actually utilize it for what it is? YES. do i want to do it by hacking into  my switch? not necessarily. As a PC enthusiast for more than 20 years, of course i would like to see more open platform abilities such as improving cooling, RAM/CPU/GPU clock speeds, screen refresh rates, battery upgrades, etc etc. Honestly, i dont think nintendo will ever make a system that lives up to the potential it boasts and so deservingly craves.
No, i do not own a switch yet, im thinking about finally purchasing one but should i? system crashes and failures, integrity issues with the physical system, its chipset, and nintendo itself to be frank... i WANT to want a switch... but so far its an out-dated, old gen box for 300 USD and thats without a game. Virtual Console is still non-existent. Online is "coming" and will more than likely be a buggy mess for at least a year based off nintendo's track record.

The appeal of a switch to me is intensely great. A Ferrari looks great too doesnt it? but without the motor its just an empty shell. With nothing to drive the switch forward (other than tapping into nostalgia and promised features and games that have yet to be released), whats keeping it held back?  the system being hacked isnt. i can tell you that much. im willing to bet that the number of willing modders for switch is less of a percent than those on other systems. will it happen? yea no doubt it will. but thats not as "major" of an issue as nintendo is making it out to be in my opinion. if they would simply do what they say they are going to do, no one would have a reason to mod/hack. same thing with nin prime's point about the dock. nintendo is creating its own problems by not delivering what the consumers want, need or are promised to receive.

but i still want one. picking one up maybe this weekend not sure yet. What i am sure of is that NINPrime will be one of my main sources of information regarding the switch.

TL:DR
Switch = Meh so far to me and that's..... that's pretty darn upsetting.

NINPrime = good

Think of it this way: What other system is going to let you play Super Mario Odyssey ;D In a broader sense, the choice of a console really boils down to the games, because that's what they are made for. And if games are on multiple consoles, what system do you think will give you the best experience.

Knowing what games you want to play will help make this decision easier.

I mean, it's cool if you don't want to play the games in the state they are on Switch... but I enjoy them. It's not like you can't play them elsewhere instead? Options my friend.

I don't really understand this comment. Is the idea here that the Wii U games are really bad or something? Just curious, because the Wii U had oodles of really good games.

To answer your last question - no. Based on the way you're talking and your own personal desires, you absolutely should not buy a Switch. Look at the way you're talking about the platform and it's shortcomings combined with your personal desires. You're a PC enthusiasts (as am I, but more so an overall tech enthusiast then just PC). You're not sitting there talking about how great the exclusive games look to be, or how impressive it is in the form factor Switch is to run certain games that really no other tablet has any business pulling off. You just talk about your personal disgust that such games even attempt to run on Switch. You also talk about overclocking and "upgradability" - these are not what dedicated video game devices are. That's not just a Switch thing - PS4 and Xbox One are the same way. Besides a hard-drive swap, you can't do anything else to those platforms. That is very much a thing with pc tech. Which is part of the reason you are a PC gamer first and foremost. You are an admitted PC tech enthusiast.

And that is perfectly fine.

The Switch was being made at time when Tegra X1 was among the best mobile gaming chips on the planet. It's not that anymore, but it's not way behind, either.

So here we are almost 9 months after the launch of the Nintendo Switch, and I can't help but feel a tad-bit jipped so far. I understand that they are trying to promote the new Zelda game and its DLC, but I think they should have revealed some information about rereleasing some other Zelda titles on the Switch. There are plenty of people who never got to play the Twilight Princess HD remaster as it came out not long before the end of life for the Wii U, and I personally own it both digitally and physically. I think Nintendo should rerelease it at a discounted rate for those who own it digitally so I can rebuild my Zelda collection on the coolest new console.....Even if it wasn't discounted I guarantee people would pay for it again just to own it on the Nintendo Switch. I want to see at the least, ALttP, WW HD and TP HD on the Switch, heck I would even buy Skyward Sword again if they released it on the Switch (though I hope they allow both Movement controls with the joycons, and regular controllers as your preference to play it.

Let me know your ideas. What you think and whether or not you think they should come to the Switch.

As you guys may have seen on the Nintendo news, that they announced the release of Pokémon Crystal on the Virtual Console for the Nintendo 3DS and 2DS systems. We have all expected this news for some time, and I am incredibly excited for it. They announced that Celebi will be catchable in this game (which is the first time on any non Japanese Crystal versions). I suppose it will have to do with the G/S Ball and the shrine like it did in Japan BUT we will see. The game is being released on January 26th, of 2018. I am super excited. Let me know your thoughts.

17 years ago when Gold and Silver were released I was in 6th grade. I own Crystal US and Crystal JP versions physically but I will also buy a copy of this game digitally for each of my handhelds. Be sure to add me and we can trade and play together.
